Writing Features for Animation

Take the terror out of tackling feature projects with Writing Features for Animation Professionals, a 4-day intensive workshop delivered over 2 consecutive weekends by experienced animation screenwriter Maria O’Loughlin.

The workshop aims to provide writers AND other animation professionals (e.g.  directors, producers, development execs, story artists) with shared tools and terminology for developing and analysing feature-length stories. Covering all the usual suspects like character arc and 3-act structure, the workshop will also explore strategies for creating and maintaining dramatic tension; moving beyond formula; and using the “sequence approach” to make the whole process less daunting.

The workshop will include one afternoon round-table Q&A with Disney director Norton Virgien, Secret of Kells director Tomm Moore and Song of the Sea screenwriter, Will Collins.

Pegbar in Association with Skillnets returns to the Science Gallery on Thursday the 29th of August

There will be a storyboarding workshop presented by Ben Hennessy

Pegbar is an Animation Networking Organisation operating in Dublin since 2008. Since then, they have facilitated a number of presentations from celebrated artists, filmmakers and storytellers such as Norton Virgien, Tomm Moore, Eamonn Butler and Bruce Block. Pegbar has hosted a number of networking events, showcasing animators’ work, as well as allowing animators to build new relationships and generate possible opportunities within the animation industry.

This workshop will be run in association with the Animation Skillnet.  The Animation Skillnet, which will officially launch later this year, is an industry led training network for the animation, games and post production sectors in Ireland. The network will run high-end training courses delivered by industry specialists as well as professional networking events and conferences.

The storyboarding workshop will start at 18:00 on Thursday the 29th of August in the Science Gallery. There will be food and drink on offer before guests settle down to the workshop that will be hosted by Pegbar’s own Ben Hennessy. Ben Hennessy is a freelance artist who has been working in the animation industry for the past 5 years. In that time he has worked on productions that have been screened on RTE jr, Cbeebies, Nickelodeon and games that are available on the Wii and iPad.

At the end of this workshop, participants will be provided with material to produce an industry standard stoyboard portfolio and the opportunity to have their work critiqued by Ben.

Tickets to this event cost just €10 and can be bought in the Science Gallery and via their website. It is recommended that tickets are bought early due to the phenomenal demand in previous years.
