Convergence in the Animation, Games and VFX Industries – Animation Skillnet Launches The Animation Skillnet, funded by Skillnets Ltd., launched its training initiative on Thursday at the Guinness Enterprise Centre in Dublin, with a Seminar on Convergence in the Animation, Games and VFX Industries, organized in partnership with Dublin Business Innovation Centre.
The Animation Skillnet is an industry led training network for the animation, games and post production sectors in Ireland. The network was established to address the current and future vital skills needs of these industries by running high-end training courses delivered by industry specialists and through organising professional networking events and conferences.
Recent government sectoral reports, such as the Creative Capital report, target the creation of 5,000 new jobs in the audio-visual sector by 2016. As the industry continues to grow many of these new jobs will be specialist in nature and the Animation Skillnet will tailor its training plan to fulfil the distinct needs of the sector.
Speaking at the launch, Skillnets CEO Alan Nuzum commented; “As part of Skillnets strategy to respond to changing labour market needs, we are delighted to support the development of the Animation Skillnet and the development of new technical and creative skills to support the animation industry in Ireland”.
Cathal Gaffney, CEO of award winning animation studio Brown Bag Films added; “The industry has seen seismic changes in both the market and in the technology that produces content and this is a very welcome initiative that helps to bridge the gap between education and industry.’’
The Animation Skillnet is funded by member companies and the Training Networks Programme, an initiative of Skillnets Ltd. funded from the National Training Fund (NTF) through the Department of Education and Skills.
